Muslim Beliefs About Creation
15 Nov 2009 | 9:30 pmIn the debate over the theory of evolution and creationism, Muslims generally fall in the middle. According to the Qur'an, the universe was created in six stages (eons), beginning with a "big bang." Muslims also accept that life first developed in water, and later in stages, over a period of time. Muslims naturally attribute this natural order to a plan put in place by the Creator. Most find this belief to be compatible with scientific theories on evolution. Most Muslims also believe, however, that human beings are a unique life form that did not follow the path of evolution from… -

26 Oct 2009 | 3:54 amA friend of mine was in a discussion recently about Islamic marriage customs. One well-meaning but ignorant question was asked: "How much did your husband pay for you?" The required mahr is a gift that the husband gives to his new bride, not to her family, in order for her to have financial independence and stability in the marriage. The Khilafah has a very comprehensive and highly responsible nuclear doctrine
19 Nov 2009 | 12:27 amAlthough regarding the use of Nuclear weapons the general rule in Islam does not allow their use as these weapons indiscriminately kill innocent civilians in addition to the destruction of military installations; however, there are two exceptions to this general rule where the use of nuclear weapons is allowed. Firstly, Islam allows a tit for tat response; therefore the Khilafah reserves the right to respond in case nuclear weapons were used against her. And secondly, Islam allows pre-emptive strikes in the presence of strong evidences of an impending nuclear attack by the adversary. -

The question of whether Muslims should apologize for Major Hasan’s actions is also addressed. The Islamic Education Center is an asset that has been seized by federal authorities as part of an investigation of its owners—Iran’s Alavi Foundation—for alleged financial ties to the Iranian government.

Mustafa Qadri's analysis of Pakistan's denials that the enemy is within
15 Nov 2009 | 9:02 amPakistan's conspiracy cottage industry Blame for the recent spate of bombings is being laid at the door of foreign powers by many ordinary Pakistanis. Why? Although the Taliban have openly claimed responsibility for the recent epidemic of suicide bombings against civilian targets in Peshawar and Islamabad, many Pakistanis appear convinced that the real culprits are India or the United States. "These are India's agents," an anti-narcotics bureaucrat tells me in Islamabad with a confident grin. Ted Rall on Fort Hood shootings
12 Nov 2009 | 2:08 amI think this cartoon captures my feelings about the episode better than anything I've seen in print or any other media till now. People who join a military or militia are doing so for the purpose of taking part in armed combat. As far as I understand it, all forms of military training are designed to foster blind obedience and faith in the correctness of ones commanding officers' orders to kill people, with a minimum of questioning who those people are and why they should be killed. Military/militia life is fundamentally dehumanizing for the above reason. Is it any surprise that some of these… -

Four centuries later, the night is known less for high treason and more for high spirits. Perhaps in four hundred years, we Americans will feel a little less shocked and betrayed than we do tonight. Nidal Malik Hassan may have had motivations that extended beyond his own life and troubles; the coming days may reveal that the impetus for this attack was personal. Whether he sought a fantastical paradise or simply the end of his own troubles cannot be known… -
I commend Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism, but the Waziri Pushtun peoples are fierce fighters
2 Nov 2009 | 7:39 pmAfghanistan as we know it was created in the 18th century for reasons of military defense. Throughout Afghan history, there was never really any cohesive agent to bind the various ethno-religious groups which comprise the country. Though many Afghans abhor the Taliban, to some in my community, the resilience of the Taliban and their ability to strike Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad in the heart of the Pakistani Punjab, is short of amazing. Afghanistan's dominant ethnic group is the Pushtun, not Pathan (like Desis insist on calling us), but Pushtuns who are divided based on a arbitrary…

Israel’s Role In Destabilizing Pakistan
13 Nov 2009 | 12:08 amWhen waging war “by way of deception,” the motto of the Israeli Mossad, well-timed crises play a critical agenda-setting role by displacing facts with what a target population can be deceived to believe. Thus the force-multiplier effect when staged crises are reinforced with pre-staged intelligence. In combination, the two often prove persuasive. That duplicity was on display when U.S. lawmakers were induced to invade Iraq in response to the mass murder of 9-11. Blind Followers
26 Sep 2009 | 4:39 amSelf preservation is a powerful force in humans, this exist on both personal & national level; in fact its a constant fear of facing a defeat, even on a intellectual level. In an attempt to avoid intellectual defeat, proof and evidence is created either consciously or subconsciously for beliefs that are held in them. Failure even in minor situations cause a feeling of being overwhelmed which is leading to an inferiority complex and a fear. This is why when people are confronted with something disproving their beliefs, their automatic reaction is to reject those new ideas and principles. -
Eid In Islam: Religion Islam
19 Sep 2009 | 4:20 amIslam is the name of the life of preservation of the self within the boundary walls of the Quran. For this purpose it is necessary that the mankind must know as to what are the boundary walls of the Quran and along with it they must also get themselves up for self-control. The month of Ramadan is the specific instrument for inculcating and substantiating each of these two matters. Today we can relate this as a Training Camp or a Refresher Course. The fasting makes the men to build up such a character which make them capable of reaching higher goals given by Allah Almighty. And when this month…

Israel’s Role In Destabilizing Pakistan
13 Nov 2009 | 12:06 amWhen waging war “by way of deception,” the motto of the Israeli Mossad, well-timed crises play a critical agenda-setting role by displacing facts with what a target population can be deceived to believe. Thus the force-multiplier effect when staged crises are reinforced with pre-staged intelligence. In combination, the two often prove persuasive. That duplicity was on display when U.S. lawmakers were induced to invade Iraq in response to the mass murder of 9-11. Scientology’s feet held to the fire in Australia: Struggle between a church and the state
20 Nov 2009 | 7:15 am'Scientology is evil; its techniques evil; its practice a serious threat to the community, medically, morally and socially; and its adherents sadly deluded and often mentally ill.''The above statement was not made by Nick Xenophon under the privilege of the Senate this week, but by a Victorian barrister, Kevin Anderson, QC, who had led a two-year government inquiry into the Church of Scientology in the 1960s. Then, as now, former Scientologists alleged that ''mind control'', physical and emotional abuse, and financial deception were standard practices, not exceptions, and integral to the… -

The Rich Merchant
20 Nov 2009 | 3:12 amOnce upon a time. There was a rich merchant who had four (4) wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He's very proud of her and always wanted to show off her to his friends. However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men. He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant's confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always… -
The bus driver
20 Nov 2009 | 2:24 amOne fine day, a bus driver went to the bus station, started his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the first few stops – a few people got on, a few got off and things went generally well. At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a guy got on, six foot eight, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the driver and said, “Big John doesn’t pay!” and sat down at the back. Did I mention that the driver was five foot three, thin, and basically meek? Well, he was. Naturally, he didn’t argue with Big John, but he wasn’t happy about it. The next… -
The Fruits Of Honesty
20 Nov 2009 | 2:13 amAn emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or his children, he decided something different. He called young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you.”The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. “I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I… -

Ramadhân is for the Muslims a very great favour from Allâh. The reality of this favour can only be felt in our lives and heart if we appreciate it, otherwise this blessed month of Ramadhân will come and go without gaining anything.Kâb bin Ujrah (RadiAllâhu Anhu) relates, that once while climbing the pulpit…

(Sura 12: verse 99 - 101) - The Fulfillment of Yusuf's dream - the sun, the moon, and eleven stars
Although in a narrative sense the sura of Joseph (Yusuf) is one of the most accessible and straightforward chapters of the Qur'an, describing in chronological order the story of Joseph's betrayal by his brothers, his rise to prominence in Egypt, and his reunion with his family, it is simultaneously a narrative whose surface conceals immense depths of meaning.... -
Dreams in Sura Yusuf
Since the language of dreams is a cloaked, symbolic language - a language of ideas, concepts, and truths embodied into various forms, into bodies and events that symbolize the true meaning - because of this it remains opaque to most. They do not know how to interpret so they shake their heads and say "confused dreams".... -
Words on a page
The Quran is not words on a page - the Quran is not the Quran until its verses take shape in the mind, connect and confirm one another, and its unfolding contents settle into the heart - only then does it begin to speak its magic within us. It speaks its content not with words and sounds but with a transformative alchemy....
